The Development History of Adhesive Labels in China

The development history of self-adhesive labels in China can be traced back to the late 1970s

Initially, the printing technology, equipment, and materials for self-adhesive labels were mainly introduced from Japan. In the late 1970s, Japan's Fuji Paper Industry Company (predecessor of Lindeco Company) imported self-adhesive label materials and corresponding processing equipment and technology into coastal cities represented by Tianjin and Guangzhou. At the same time, other Japanese manufacturers have also entered China.

During this period, the adhesive label printing workshop was usually a confidential department. Due to the dependence on imported equipment and materials, the price of adhesive labels was dozens of times higher than it is now. As a result, most enterprises were deterred and continued to use adhesive labels.

In the 1980s, the printing technology of self-adhesive labels in China was very backward, and most label products were mainly based on text lines and simple color patterns. In terms of printing technology, almost all were letterpress printing, mainly using resin ink.

In the 1990s, self-adhesive labels quickly occupied the huge packaging industry in the mid to high end sales market. There were thousands of private enterprises engaged in self-adhesive label packaging printing in China, greatly promoting the development of this field.

How to choose the adhesive label that suits your needs?

1. Material: Paper is suitable for short-term labels, plastic is suitable for outdoor use, and metal is used for special scenarios.

2. Stickiness: Choose temporary, regular, or strong stickiness according to your needs. Long term use is recommended with strong stickiness.

3. Size and shape: Choose the size according to the size of the item, and choose square, circular, and other shapes according to your needs.

4. Printing effect: Inkjet printing is suitable for diverse printing, screen printing for simple patterns and text, heat transfer printing for special materials, laser engraving for high precision and personalization.

5. Price and suppliers: Consider budget and choose experienced and reputable suppliers.

Inspection standards for self-adhesive label paper

1. Appearance: The appearance of self-adhesive label paper should be neat and beautiful, without obvious flaws or defects. The color should be uniform and consistent, and the printing should be clear and visible.

2. Size: The size of the adhesive label paper should be accurate and meet the customer's requirements. The size error should be controlled within the allowable range and cannot be too large or too small.

3. Stickiness: The stickiness of self-adhesive label paper is very important, as it should be able to firmly adhere to various surfaces without easily falling off. The viscosity should be controlled within a certain range, neither too strong nor too weak.

4. Durability: Adhesive label paper should have a certain degree of durability and be able to maintain its performance in different environments. For example, it should be able to maintain viscosity and aesthetics in environments such as high temperature, low temperature, humidity, and dryness.

In addition to the above standards, there are other inspection criteria for adhesive label paper, such as tear strength, tensile strength, and so on. These standards are all aimed at ensuring the quality and effectiveness of adhesive label paper.
